Moreover, since 2009, we have been offering certification services that assess conformance to the most rigorous of standards around privacy and the security of personal data. In addition we offer a membership program and a variety of Work Groups that bring together solution providers, their clients and industry partners to inform and shape the future of identity. Our community is global one, and representing all sectors and jurisdictions.
Kantara develops the first Identity Assurance Framework (IAF), providing a rigorous and transparent certification program for Identity Service Providers and therefore building confidence across the market.
The US General Services Administration, Office of Government-wide Policy, and Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) recognizes Kantara as a Trust Framework Provider to assess Identity Service Providers' conformance against NIST Special Publication 800-63. Consequently, this endorsement strengthens the role of Kantara in evaluating compliance standards. Furthermore, it ensures that the Identity Service Providers adhere to the stringent requirements set forth by NIST
ID.me's Credential Service Provider (CSP) service is the first identity service to be awarded a Kantara Trust Mark; moreover, it operates at LoA 1, 2, and 3
The release of OMB M-19-17 contains an explicit mandate to US federal agencies to implement NIST 800-63-3 by using Identity Service Providers that have been awarded a Kantara Initiative Identity Assurance Trust Mark.
The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) requires NIST 800-63-3 compliant credentials for healthcare providers. Meanwhile, the CARIN Alliance and Kantara sign a collaborative agreement, advocating the implementation of Digital Identity and Federation in healthcare delivered through NIST 800-63-3 certified Identity Service Providers

In September 2024, Dr Carol Buttle was appointed as Chief Technology Officer for the organization. Shortly after, Kantara moved to adopt the ISO 17065 for certification. This brings all our audit partners together under one standard methodology with common working practices and greater transparency for clients.
